Migraine Headache Relief with Bowen Therapy

Welcome to Bowenwork Therapeutics' Migraine Headache Page

Here, you will find information about...What is a Migraine Headache? What are the symptoms of a Migraine Headache? What causes Migraine Headaches? Is there a Cure for Migraine Headaches? How can Bowen Therapy help with Migraine Headache Pain Relief?

A migraine headache is a type of vascular headache that is caused by an enlargement of blood vessels. When the blood vessels dilate, there is a release of blood and chemicals to the brain. This causes inflammation and pain. There is a strong connection between a migraine attack and stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system (the "fight or flight" response), which controls our responses to stress and pain.

The Symptoms of a Migraine Headache can include:

*Moderate to severe pain commonly located on one side of the brain

*Pain that is aggravated by movement or physical activity

*Nausea and/or vomiting

*Sensitivity to light and sound

*Changes in your vision such as seeing auras or flashes of light

*Feeling pins and needles sensation in your arm or leg

Common Causes of Migraine Headaches:

*Changes in the weather, especially a drop in the barometric pressure.

*Chemical sensitivity which can be triggered by exposure to harsh cleaning agents and chemicals, perfumes, or deodorants

*Lack of Sleep

*Food sensitivities or allergies

*Bright lights and loud noises

*Stress

*Hormonal changes

*Dehydration

*Teeth grinding and TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder)

Although there is no known cure for migraine headaches, there are some things that you can do to help manage the frequency with which you get them.

If you have any concerns about your headaches, or notice any changes in frequency or intensity, please contact your doctor.

Self Care for Migraine Headaches:

*Keep a migraine headache diary. Use the diary to record your activities, food, water intake, weather, and stress levels. Over time you may begin to see a pattern that you can address by modifying your lifestyle habits.

*Reduce or eliminate caffeine and alcohol. Wine especially contains many sulfites that are a known trigger for headaches.

*Use only organic products to clean you house

*Drink lots of water. We recommend that you drink 2-3 liters of water a day.

*Get 8-9 hours of sleep every night

*Check with your dentist to see if have TMJ or if you clench and grind your teeth. They may be able to fit you with a guard that will help with this.

*Get Bowenwork to manage migraine headache pain and frequency

How can Bowenwork help to manage your migraine?

Bowenwork is an effective modality that gently helps the body in shifting from a sympathetic nervous system response (fight or flight) when a migraine occurs, to a parasympathetic response (rest, relax, and heal) so that body can recover from a migraine. Bowenwork does this through specific Bowen "moves" that address neuro-vascular points on the body to help relieve migraine pain and frequency. Bowen work is a gently and non-invasive modality that gently reduces overall stress and relaxes your muscles.

I personally have suffered from migraines since I was a child. By keeping a migraine diary, I have been able to pinpoint most of my triggers and take action to avoid or eliminate the ones that are in my control. I have found Bowenwork to be an absolute miracle. It has not completely "cured" me of my migraines, but since finding Bowen I rarely get them.
