Bowen Technique: a unique modality of body work that is comprised of gentle yet highly effective moves across muscles, tendons, and peripheral nerves that trigger the body’s natural self healing response. Healing occurs at all levels in the body: physical, chemical, emotional, mental, and energetic. gentle hands on moves that reset the body to heal itself by activating the nervous and endocrine systems, among others, through the following mechanisms: stretch reflex, joint proprioceptors, fascia and connective tissue, spinal reflexes, acupuncture meridians, harmonic vibrations, lymphatic system, and detoxification.

Yin Yoga: consists primarily of seated postures held for 3-10 minutes in order to release the deep connective tissues in the body. focuses on opening hips, pelvis, and lower spine a simple, deep, powerful practice.

This Yin Yoga and Bowen Technique Workshop brings together these two profound healing modalities to create an experience of deep repair within the body. Each participant will receive hands on Bowenwork before, during, and after a deep yin yoga sequence.

This workshop is perfect for:*back, hip, or pelvic issues or pain*increasing flexibility in the lower body*reducing headaches and/or migraines*improving sleep

Your teacher, Kate Deriso has a full time Bowen Therapy practice in Herndon where she works with clients that suffer from chronic pain, back pain, migraines, MS, and fibromyalgia. She also teaches yin yoga at the Beloved Yoga studio in Great Falls.

Staying Hydrated

The weather outside is a bit frightful with all this heat and humidity. For me, I don't mind the heat so much but the humidity and air quality is a challenge to be out in for long periods of time. My darling husband was out in this wretched heat all day yesterday. So, when he came home I made him a huge glass of juice to get his electrolytes back up to working order.

Run the following through your juicer and enjoy...

1 English Cucumber

4 stalks of celery

2 green apples

2 limes peeled

And of course, a session of Bowenwork did the trick for his dear aching back!

Raw Coconut Pudding

Made this for breakfast this morning and it ROCKS!

1 C fresh young coconut meat
juice of 4 lemons
7 dates, soaked for 20 minutes
1/2 t vanilla extract or 1 inch vanilla bean

Combine all ingredients in a food processor and puree. Serve pudding in cups.

1 Bunch of Kale (I use the stems too)
1 Cucumber
2 Lemons (peeled)
3 Apples

Today's Juice

Happy Day After Christmas!
I hope everyone had a beautiful and sacred day full of joy and peace.

This morning I needed a bit of grounding, so I thought some sweet root vegetables would be nice to juice.

Here is what I ran through my juicer...

3 Celery
7 Carrots (peeled)
1 Beet (peeled)
1 Apple
1 1/2 Lime (peeled)

Simple Soup

The other night I was on a mission for something to make in my crock pot. It was 10pm. I didn't want to follow a recipe because I didn't have much to work with in my fridge and it was certainly too late to go the the store. It is cold here now in Virginia and I wanted something soothing, nourishing, and warm to have for breakfast the next morning.

So.....out came the crock pot and into it went.......

12 C Water

3 Vegetable Buliion Cubes

2 Stalks Celery chopped

3 Potatoes cut up into small cubes. Scrub them well and leave the skins on.

1/2 a Head Cabbage. Shredded.

6 Carrots. Peeled. Chopped

1/2 Onion sliced

1 Can organic diced tomatoes

huge handful of fresh parsley

I set this to LOW over night. I woke up to the most amazing and comforting smell out of my kitchen.

My morning breakfast was a pot of green tea and a big bowl of this soup. Having this for breakfast did several things for me...

I felt really nourished and grounded. I felt warm all day. My craving for sweets was non existent that day and has continued since I have been having soup for breakfast for the past 3 days.

One of the beneficial qualities of a soup like this is that it is full of potassium and minerals from the vegetables. It is easily digested and is known to help fight off colds and the flu.

Here is what I would like to do differently next time..

I would ADD beets, zucchini, more cabbage, and some garlic.

Making this soup is also a great way to clean out your fridge of vegetables that you might not eat right away and would spoil.
